I think that all art has meaning. A painter doesn't paint without a purpose. They choose to paint something that means something. Art is used as decoration all the time. Even if you don't know the story behind it that doesn't mean that there isn't one. I think that art with a story is deeper and richer than any other art. The first art project I did this year was a painting of a sailboat. I explained in my last blog post how my dad used to draw sailboats and I was inspired by his art. However, I think that in the right setting my painting could be used as decoration.
The second photo is a sketch of my next project for this semester. As you can tell there is a deeper meaning in it. I don't think I'd hang the finished work up in my house as decoration. I think there is a difference between art on display and art as decoration because people don't want something really deep on their walls, they want something bright and nice.
